In an interesting situation right around Halloween, RollerCoin had sales kick off October 31st that have proven to be more destructive than helpful. This has become a massive mess, and player sentiment is showing just how destructive changes can be when they go awry and nobody is around to fix them. With that said, this one stretches far beyond the norm when it comes to how deep the damage goes, and since a lot of people are still unaware of what's going on, I wanted to help clear the air and explain.

A New Sale Starts

As you can see in the above image, you spend 3.62 RLT and you get a Borrowed Gold II miner, some bonus power, and... wait, 2500 RLT? That's RIGHT. No, this was NOT a typo. In fact, multiple people started posting images of their RLT balances at 30k+ after they realized this actually worked. Crazy, right?! So what happened next shouldn't really be any surprise, then... people went crazy on the markets!
The Markets Go Wild!
I was watching (and someone had posted a video of them refreshing the official marketplace page) via our own marketplace so I could follow what was happening. What I saw was about what I expected: miners being bought in droves, a clear attempt to spend the RLT as fast as possible before getting caught. Were wools included? Of course. How about parts? Absolutely! As an example miner page, you can look at the top image of this article or the one that follows:

There are tons of others like this as well, and all wools were bought out along with massive amounts of parts, driving up prices of most things on the market to extremely high levels. After all, it was free RLT to them, right?
Why Was This So Damaging?
You're probably thinking "But wouldn't RollerCoin fix this quickly?" The answer to this is... interesting, at least to me. First of all, it took quite a while to get anyone from the team to respond, and by that point over 3,000 bundles had already been bought (or 7,500,000+ RLT injected into the market). To put it into perspective, a 3 Eh/s miner was running around 28 RLT prior to this, so I'll let you do the math on that one. Yes, it's a lot.
Second, when questioned about what is going to happen, the best answer we got was Cuscuz, who simply stated that they alerted the team, that nobody would be in until Monday to do anything, and that they were leaving, followed by being asked if they were just escaping and them responding:

In other words, from the time of the event until the fix, whatever that is, will be a full day most likely. And with how haywire the markets have been going since this happened, the only real solution is going to be a rollback of everything people did over that period. Too many things were already mixed in with legitimate players NOT to do a full rollback, and that is damaging in and of itself when you consider things like the minigames, events, the fact that we're almost at the end of the RollerHouse of Horrors, and so on.
I'm looking forward to reporting back on what ends up happening as a result of this fiasco. Right now, the Discord is still understandably upset about the entire situation. And at the end of the day there's really no solution that doesn't hurt everyone. But the vast majority of us see only one real solution to this problem. I guess RollerCoin really did live up to their aspirations of having a "RollerHouse of Horrors!"
